Awards

There are three categories of awards:

  • CISTC Technical Recognition Award
  • CISTC Outstanding Service Award
  • CISTC Early Career Award

The award includes a plaque and shall be given at a committee meeting. The periodicity of the issuing of an award as well the committee meeting at which the award will be given, shall be determined by the committee Chair in consultation the CISTC Award Selection Committee. The award winners shall be listed in the committee webpage.

Award Selection Committee

Objectives:

The Award selection committee recognizes outstanding contributions, both technical and service contributions, to the technical committee and the community it serves.

Award Selection Committee

The recipient of the CISTC Technical Recognition Award is decided by the CISTC Award Selection Committee, which is chaired by a past CISTC chair.

The Chair establishes the committee selection, constituted of reasonable number of 4 or 5 experts and active members, among them one or two officers of CISTC. It is established for TWO years. This committee should be approved by the TC (active members) and the TEA Council before it starts its work.

GUIDELINES FOR CISTC TECHNICAL RECOGITION AWARD

The Communications & Information Security (CISTC) Technical Recognition Award aims to promote research and development activities on topics of Communications and Information Systems Security in both the academic and industrial community. The award recognizes members of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) who have made outstanding contributions to the technological advancement of security.

Award Frequency

The CISTC Technical Recognition Award will be given in each calendar year. If no suitable candidate is proposed in a given year, the award will not be presented for that year. The award will be announced and conferred during the IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC).

Nomination Procedure

Nominations will be solicited from the CISTC members. All nominations must be sent to a designated member of the Awards selection committee in PDF or text file format by the deadline fixed in the call for nomination launched each year few weeks before IEEE ICC conference will be held. The nominations should include a concise description of the candidate’s accomplishments as related to his/her technical contribution. Any person may nominate a candidate for the award, except the members of the CISTC Technical Recognition Award Selection Committee and ComSoc Board of Governors.

Eligibility Criteria

Any individual, except members of the CISTC Technical Recognition Award Selection Committee and

ComSoc Board of Governors, may be nominated for the award, if the following criteria are met:

the candidate must be an IEEE ComSoc Member at the time of nomination and receiving the award;

the candidate must be an active member of the CISTC at the time of nomination; and

the candidate must have made significant contributions to the technical advancement of security or have made valuable contributions in standardization, patents, industry practice, etc.

Support for the Award

The CISTC Technical Recognition Award is supported by the IEEE ComSoc.The prize is a certificate and an IEEE plaque.

GUIDELINES FOR CISTC OUTSTANDING  SERVICE AWARD

The Communications & Information Security (CISTC) Outstanding Service Award is established to recognize members of the IEEE Communications Society’s (ComSoc) CISTC who have a distinguished record of service to the CISTC community, including organization of CISTC endorsed symposia and workshops, providing exceptional leadership within the CISTC, and promotion of CISTC activities and interests in the CISTC research community.

Award Frequency

The CISTC Outstanding Service Award will be given in each calendar year. If no suitable candidate is proposed in a given year, the award will not be presented for that year.  The award will be announced and conferred during the IEEE Global Communications Conference (Globecom).

ComSoc Board of Governors, may be nominated for the award, if the following criteria are met:

the candidate must be an IEEE ComSoc Member at the time of nomination and receiving the award;

the candidate must be an active member of the CISTC at the time of nomination; and

the candidate must have made significant contributions in terms of his/her leadership role within the CISTC and has been serving as a Chair or Vice-Chair before or at the time of nomination.

The CISTC Outstanding Service Award is supported by the IEEE ComSoc. The prize is a certificate and an IEEE plaque.

GUIDELINES FOR CISTC EARLY CAREER AWARD

The Communications & Information Security (CISTC) Early Career Award recognizes members of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc)  CISTC who have achieved early career visibility in the field through research and service and who (i) have participated in the CISTC (e.g., attended CISTC meetings, served CISTC in a significant capacity, been member of the TPC for ICC/GLOBECOM) and (ii) are within 10 years of receiving their (first) highest university degree.

Award Frequency

The CISTC Early Career Award will be given in each calendar year.  If no suitable candidate is proposed in a given year, the award will not be presented for that year. The award will be announced and conferred during the IEEE Global Communications Conference (Globecom).

Nomination Procedure

Nominations will be solicited from the CISTC members. All nominations must be sent to a designated member of the Awards selection committee in PDF or text file format by the deadline fixed in the call for nomination launched each year a few weeks before the IEEE Globecom conference. The nominations should include a concise description of the candidate’s technical accomplishments as well as the participation in CISTC.  Any person may nominate a candidate for the award, except the members of the CISTC Early Career Award Selection Committee and ComSoc Board of Governors.

Eligibility Criteria

Early career for an individual is defined as within 10 years of receiving their (first) highest university degree. Any individual, except members of the CISTC Early Career Award Selection Committee and ComSoc Board of Governors, may be nominated for the award, if the following criteria are met:

  • the candidate must be an IEEE ComSoc Member at the time of nomination;
  • the candidate must be an active member of the CISTC at the time of nomination; and
  • the candidate must have made significant contributions within the CISTC in his/her early career stage.

Support for the Award

The CISTC Early Career Award is supported by the IEEE ComSoc. The prize is a certificate and an IEEE plaque.
